TYSONS CORNER, VA, September 5, 2019 ” Iridium Communications (Nasdaq: IRDM) has named 10 companies that will be the first to create products to test the application of Iridium™s Certus 9770 voice and data transceiver, ExecutiveBiz reported Aug. 22.

The initial batch of beta partners — Beam Communications, Blue Sky Network, Cobham, Lars Thrane, Marine Instruments, McQ, NAL Research, SkyTrac Systems, Telespazio and Wireless Innovation — received operational beta units of the transceiver to assess its application in areas such as aviation, land-mobile and the internet of things, Iridium said Aug. 21.

In addition to being able to make audio and video transmissions, Certus 9770 can reportedly transfer IP data 35 times faster than other transceivers. Iridium added it anticipates expanding to new markets due to Certus 9770™s L-band network and L-band speeds, which range from 22 kbps to 88 kbps.

“This new breed of device is the start of a shift in what defines small-form-factor satellite communications technology,” said Matt Desch, CEO at Iridium and a 2019 Wash100 winner.

After the testing stage, the Certus 9770 transceiver is scheduled to be ready for deployment to Iridium™s other technology and distribution partners by the first quarter of 2020.
