TYSONS CORNER, VA, May 20, 2019 Raytheon (NYSE: RTN) has utilized open architecture and the Unmanned Aircraft System Control Segment standard to develop a technology that the U.S. Navy can use to operate several unmanned platforms even with the limited space for ground control stations on naval ships, ExecutiveBiz reported May 8.
The company said May 7 the Raytheon Common Ground Control System will work to enable Navy shipboard personnel to manage a fleet of unmanned airborne, underwater and surface systems using a single “cyber-hardened” station by consolidating product support, reusing software services and removing redundant software development.
“The beauty of ¦ using the UCS standard is that it can integrate third-party packages for things like mission management, mission planning, maps and graphic user interfaces,” added Bob Busey, director of unmanned vehicle control systems at Raytheon.
He noted that the Department of Defense itself is exploring multidomain command and control, which could present an opportunity for the Raytheon Common Ground Control System to be deployed by the U.S. military.
