TYSONS CORNER, VA, May 17, 2019 A Thales report on data threats states that less than a third of federal agencies utilize data encryption even as a majority run their sensitive data on blockchain, cloud, internet of things and other “digitally transformative” technology environments, ExecutiveBiz reported May 1.
The “2019 Thales Data Threat Report – Federal Edition” indicates that these tech environments create a potential risk to government data as digital transformation efforts seem to outpace investment in data protection, the company said May 1.
“Modernization and transformation efforts can create new vulnerabilities that result in data breaches, with security measures often being applied after the fact,” said Nick Jovanovic, federal vice president for Thales Cloud Protection & Licensing.
“[Agencies] need platforms that help them to better manage these environments and enable protection down to the data layer,” he added.
