President Donald Trump intends to nominate Acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan to serve as Pentagon chief on a full-time basis, The New York Times reported Thursday.

Sarah Huckabee Sanders, White House press secretary, announced the president™s intention in a tweet posted Thursday.

œIf confirmed by the Senate, I will continue the aggressive implementation of our National Defense Strategy, Shanahan, a 2019 Wash100 winner, wrote in a tweet following the announcement.

œI remain committed to modernizing the force so our remarkable Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines have everything they need to keep our military lethal and our country safe, he added.

He took over as interim defense secretary after James Mattis stepped down in December.

Shanahan became deputy secretary at the Pentagon when the Senate confirmed him to the department’s no. 2 position in 2017.

He is a three-decade Boeing (NYSE: BA) veteran who held senior leadership roles at the company, including senior vice president of supply chain and operations.
