Science Applications International Corp. (NYSE: SAIC) will eliminate the chief operating officer role starting April 1 as part of a new organizational structure following the election of COO Nazzic Keene to succeed Tony Moraco as CEO of SAIC.
SAIC said Wednesday solutions and technology and customer groups as well as corporate functions will now report directly to Keene, who will oversee the companys daily operations during the transition period.
We made the strategic decision to have the customer groups report directly to the CEO to enable stronger alignment and be a more agile partner to our customers who face dynamic challenges and opportunities, said Keene, a 2019 Wash100 winner.
With the elimination of the COO role, we also have the opportunity to realign corporate functional roles to improve collaboration and operational effectiveness, she added.
Moraco, a 2019 Wash100 awardee, will continue to serve as CEO and executive transition adviser of SAIC through July 31.
Michael LaRouche, a former vice president at Raytheon (NYSE: RTN), joined SAIC as general manager for the national security group. He will report to Keene and will be responsible for the companys intelligence, Air Force and other defense agency clients.
LaRouche has three decades of experience in cyber, defense, intelligence and space and is a member of the Intelligence and National Security Alliances Council on Technology and Innovation.
Mark Escobar, a 20-year SAIC veteran and former general manager of the companys national security group, will serve as head of the newly created business operations organization covering business development, corporate communications, procurement, contracts, corporate IT, security and government affairs.
During his career at SAIC, Escobar has held leadership positions in engineering and program management in support of intelligence, dense and civilian space clients.
