Iridium’s Matt Desch: Legacy LEO Satellites to Complete Deorbiting in Q1 2019 Amid Transition to NEXT

TYSONS CORNER, VA, September 24, 2018 ” Matt Desch, CEO of Iridium Communications (Nasdaq: IRDM), has said the company’s first-generation low-Earth-orbit communications satellites are scheduled to finish the deorbiting process within the first quarter of 2019, with 41 of 66 units in the constellation already removed, ExecutiveBiz reported Sept. 13.

Space News reported Sept. 12 that Desch, a four-time Wash100 awardee, noted Iridium is working to deboost the legacy satellites as part of the transition of all network operations to the Iridium NEXT constellation that will be completed with the last batch of satellites to launch in November.
