Northrop to Support USAF Battlefield Airborne Comms Node Payload Under $173M Contract

Northrop Grumman (NYSE: NOC) has received a one-year, $172.7 million contract to manage the payload technology for the U.S. Air Force‘s Battlefield Airborne Communications Node.

The Defense Department said Friday the company will also support BACN payload equipment and services under the cost-plus-fixed-fee contract.

USAF will obligate $56 million in fiscal 2018 overseas contingency operations and maintenance funds at the time of the award.

Work will take place in California and overseas locations through Jan. 23, 2019.

BACN works to help warfighters gain situational awareness by connecting terrain inhibited line-of-sight communications, weapon systems and mission units in various theaters of operations.

The node is designed to integrate with the RQ-4 Global Hawk unmanned aircraft system and the BD700 manned aircraft platform.
