SSL to Carry SmallSats for Sun Experiment Under Project With UM, JPL; Richard White Comments

TYSONS CORNER, VA, Dec. 15, 2017 ” Space Systems Loral has partnered with the University of Michigan and NASA‘s Jet Propulsion Laboratory on a project that seeks to launch small satellites to study the sun and how solar energetic particles are emitted into interplanetary space, ExecutiveBiz reported Tuesday.

The Maxar Technologies (NYSE: MAXR) subsidiary said Monday its Payload Orbital Delivery System will carry the smallsats beyond geosynchronous Earth orbit and deploy them as free-flyers to perform the study as part of the Sun Radio Interferometer Space Experiment.

Richard White, president of SSL™s government systems unit, noted that PODS works to facilitate flight opportunities for hosted and small rideshare payloads to GEO orbit and beyond.
