Kevin Davis, vice president for public sector at Splunk (Nasdaq: SPLK), has said government agencies seeking to comply with cybersecurity policies and data protection regulations should deploy a platform that works to automate the collection and analysis of large volumes of data.
Davis wrote that implementing an automated system for compliance monitoring could help agencies address challenges associated with manual data collection processes and free personnel from error-prone and time-consuming activities.
Reliance on automation can overcome the traditional challenges of ingesting and normalizing data by eliminating the need to fit incoming data into predefined schemas, he added.
Davis called on public sector managers to have “situational awareness” or real-time visibility into activities across enterprise networks in order to keep pace with mission priorities, audit requirements and changing standards.
Not only is enterprise-level assessment an essential cornerstone of an effective compliance program, it also facilitates optimized IT operations and risk management, he noted.
