Johns Hopkins APL Unveils Aerial-Aquatic Drone Prototype for Marine Data Collection


TYSONS CORNER, VA, Sept. 8, 2017 ” Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory has built an unmanned vehicle prototype that works to operate both underwater and in the air to collect data on large bodies of water, ExecutiveBiz reported Thursday.

The lab said Wednesday the Flying Fish is a fixed-wing, unmanned aerial-aquatic vehicle that is designed to autonomously swim underwater and propel itself into the air to move between locations and features a single propulsion mechanism as well as sensors to perform its mission.
