Edward Morche, a 16-year Level 3 Communications (NYSE: LVLT) veteran, will serve as president of strategic enterprise, federal government and state government business unit at CenturyLink (NYSE: CTL) once the Monroe, Louisiana-based telecommunications firm completes its pending $34 billion acquisition of Level 3.
Erich Sanchack continues to lead the federal government group.
Morche will directly report to Jeff Storey, recently appointed president and chief operating officer at CenturyLink, and oversee accounts related to federal and state government, research networks and educational institutions, CenturyLink said Thursday.
Morche worked at communications infrastructure services provider Zayo Group (NYSE: ZAYO) as head of sales and resigned after a month in the role to rejoin Level 3 on July 5.
He previously served as senior vice president for East region enterprise sales and government markets at Level 3 between 2013 and 2015 prior to his promotion to group VP for the firms regional and government enterprise sales in North America.
Prior to Level 3, Morche held senior leadership positions at Igaea Communications, Teleglobe, Global One, Sprint International and Sprint Corp.
Morche is one of the presidents of five business units that will report to Storey and those other units include global accounts management and international; small and midsize business, local government and education; wholesale and indirect; and consumer.
Shareholders at both companies separately approved the planned merger in March and the firms expect to complete the transaction by the end of September.
