Jerald Howe Jr., formerly a partner at law firm Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson, will join Leidos (NYSE: LDOS) as executive vice president and general counsel.
The more than 30-year industry veteran will succeed Vincent Maffeo, who will continue to support Leidos as a consultant after he retires July 15, the company said Thursday.
“Jerry is an accomplished legal mind and a proven leader who brings substantial expertise in the aerospace, defense and intelligence sectors,” said Leidos Chairman and CEO Roger Krone, an inductee into Executive Mosaic‘s Wash100 for 2017.
At Fried Frank, Howe advised and represented clients in government contracts litigation, investigations and bid protests, among other matters.
He previously served as senior VP and general counsel at TASC, where he was responsible for legal affairs, corporate development, ethics and compliance programs, government relations and security.
Howe also served as owner and principal of consulting firm InSequitur; EVP of the Olive Group; SVP and general counsel of Veridian Corp.; and judicial clerk to Judge George E. MacKinnon of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit.
Maffeo helped manage the legal aspects of Science Applications International Corp.‘s (NYSE: SAIC) split into the new SAIC and Leidos in 2013 as well as the latter’s merger with the information systems and global solutions segment of Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) in 2016.
Prior to SAIC, he previously served as SVP and general counsel at ITT Corp., an associate at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett and a lieutenant in the Judge Advocate Generals Corps within the U.S. Naval Reserve.
