Boeing to Integrate Navy Super Hornet IR Search & Track System Under $89M Contract

Boeing (NYSE: BA) has secured an $89 million contract from the U.S. Navy to help the service branch incorporate a Block II infrared search and track system into the F/A-18 E/F Super Hornet fighter aircraft.

The Defense Department said Thursday that Boeing will provide initial design and development, prototyping hardware procurement, technical risk reduction and product integration support under the cost-plus-incentive-fee contract.

The company will also conduct technical reviews of IRST Block II with the Super Hornet aircraft as part of the system’s preliminary design review.

Work will occur in Orlando, Florida, and St. Louis, Missouri, through April 2020.

The Naval Air Systems Command will obligate $21 million at the time of award from the service branch’s fiscal 2017 research, development, test and evaluation funds.
