Kenya asked to purchase 12 units of MD 530F helicopters, M260 rocket launchers, M151 rockets, heavy-machine gun pods, M274 smoke-signature warhead rockets and .50 caliber rounds, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Tuesday.
The deal also covers contractor logistics support, navigation and communications equipment, flight delivery assistance for Special Assigned Airlift Mission, spare parts, government technical support and training services.
MD Helicopters will serve as principal contractor in the transaction that seeks to help Kenya perform scout and attack airborne operations in support of the countrys African Union Mission in Somalia initiative as well as replace its aging fleet of MD 500 aircraft.
The deal will also require approximately 12 contractor personnel to provide support services to the East African country over a one-year period.
L3 Technologies (NYSE: LLL) platform integration division was named prime contractor on a separate $418 million FMS agreement that covers the delivery of Air Tractor AT- 802L aircraft to Kenya.
