NASA Taps Lockheed Martin to Develop Asteroid Exploration Spacecraft


TYSONS CORNER, VA, Jan. 9, 2017 ” Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) will develop and operate a spacecraft that will work to study six Jupiter Trojan asteroids as part of NASA‘s Discovery Program missions, ExecutiveBiz reported Friday.

The Lucy spacecraft is scheduled for a 2021 launch and will seek to observe the geology, surface composition and the physical properties of the asteroids at close range, Lockheed said Thursday.

Spacecraft development work has a spending cap of $450 million, the report said.
