Carey Smith, former president of Honeywell‘s (NYSE: HON) defense and space business, has joined Parsons Corp. as president of the Pasadena, Calif.-based engineering and infrastructure services contractor’s U.S. federal business unit.
Parsons said Tuesday Tom Roell will return to his full-time post as vice chairman and chief risk adviser after three months as interim federal leader upon the departure of Mary Ann Hopkins from that role to another leadership position at global design and consultancy firm Arcadis.
Honeywell credits Smith with leadership of the defense and space group to a double-digit backlog increase during her one-and-a-half month tenure in the role and the unit also worked to expand internationally and pursue acquisitions during that period.
Defense News listed the unit 15th in the publication’s 2015 list of the world’s largest defense contractors at approximately $4.7 billion in revenue that year.
The three-decade GovCon veteran’s career at the industrial conglomerate also includes three-and-a-half years as president of its Honeywell Technology Solutions Inc. U.S. government services business acquired in August for $300 million by KBR (NYSE: KBR), as well as a short stint as vice president of customer and product support for Honeywell’s aerospace segment.
Prior to Honeywell, she spent 16 years at Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) and the 10 prior to that at IBM (NYSE: IBM).
Parsons’ federal government business works in the defense, environmental, infrastructure, security and intelligence services markets.
