Mike Poth: FirstNet Inches Closer to Public Safety Broadband Network Contract Award

wireless communicationsThe First Responder Network Authority is in the evaluation phase and is close to awarding a contract to build a national public safety broadband network for first responders.

FirstNet CEO Mike Poth said Thursday the agency has completed several tasks in compliance with the Federal Acquisition Regulation in order to facilitate the contract award for the proposed national wireless network.

Those tasks include the release of a request for proposals in January, response to questions about the RFP and evaluation of proposals from interested vendors, Poth noted.

œFirstNet set an aggressive schedule for the procurement knowing that the timing of the award would depend on many factors given its significance and complexity, some of which are outside our control, Poth said.

œFirstNet will continue to execute the acquisition process outlined in the RFP beyond the November 1st target date for the award, he added.

Poth offered updates on the procurement process for the proposed network five months after FirstNet closed the process for the submission of final bids for the contract.
