The Boston Consulting Group has appointed Brad Carson,  former acting undersecretary for personnel and readiness at the Defense Department, as senior adviser and named Trent Reasons, former director of analysis at the Treasury Department, as associate director.

BCG said Tuesday Carson will support the management consulting firm’s worldwide public sector practice as well as aerospace and defense programs.

The two-decade public service veteran previously served as undersecretary and general counsel of the U.S. Army, a representative from Oklahoma and a U.S. Navy intelligence officer during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Reasons will work for BCG’s public sector and capital markets practices,  the company said in a separate announcement released Tuesday.

At the Treasury Department, Reasons provided advice on various policy issues to the secretary of the Treasury, the Federal Reserve Board chair, the Securities Exchange Commission chair and other financial regulatory leaders.

He started his career at Bankers Trust as a quantitative analyst and later worked as a fixed-income derivatives trader and senior executive at global investment banks Oppenheimer & Co. (NYSE: OPY),  Keefe, Bruyette & Woods,  Lehman Brothers and WestLB.

Both Carson and Reasons will be based in BCG’s Washington office.
