Navy Awards Long-Lead Ship Materials Procurement Funds to General Dynamics, Huntington Ingalls


NavyShipThe U.S. Navy has awarded separate contract modifications to General Dynamics‘ (NYSE:GD) NASSCO subsidiary and Huntington Ingalls Industries‘ (NYSE:HII) Ingalls Shipbuilding division to obtain long-lead time materials needed for the production of two Navy ships.

The Defense Department said Monday that Ingalls Shipbuilding will supply machinery control system components and software; cargo and aircraft elevators; gas turbines and refrigeration units for the Landing Helicopter Assault Replacement Flight 1 amphibious assault ship under a $120 million modification.

NASSCO secured a $106.2 million modification to provide items such as interior outfittings, steel plates, hull and piping, ventilation, machinery insulation, air conditioning, emergency switchboards, valves, steel shapes, ballast water treatment system and others for the Expeditionary Mobile Base 5 vessel, DoD said Monday.

Ingalls and NASSCO will perform work through June 2020 and March 2017, respectively.

The Naval Sea Systems Command will obligate $120 million and $82.5 million from the Navy’s fiscal 2016 shipbuilding and conversion funds for HII and NASSCO’s respective contract modifications.

LHD/LHA(R) amphibious assault ships are built to support vertical/short take-off and landing; short take-off vertical landing; and vertical take-off and landing activities of tilt-rotor and rotary wing aircraft.

Expeditionary Mobile Base is designed to serve as an afloat forward staging base-variant of the mobile landing platform that works to aid air mine countermeasures and special warfare missions.
