The Mid-America Conversion Services JV will perform work at DOEs Kentucky-based Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant and the Piketon, Ohio-based Portsmouth Gaseous Diffusion Plant beginning in the first quarter of 2017, Fluor said Friday.
The JV will operate the facilities to help DOE process stored DUF6 converted into depleted uranium oxide or hydrofluoric acid for potential reuse, storage or disposal.
Mid-America Conversion Services will also serve as broker on the sale of the aqueous hydrofluoric acid product and provide surveillance and maintenance support for the DUF6 cylinder inventory, Fluor said.
Westinghouse said Thursday the contract represents the company’s return to the government services marketplace.
The company will provide expertise on nuclear energy and site management services as part of its role in the program.
