Boeing Receives $1B P-8I Maritime Surveillance Aircraft Order from India


boeing logoBoeing (NYSE: BA) has received a $1 billion order for four additional P-8I maritime surveillance aircraft from India, USNI News reported Wednesday.

Vivek Raghuvanshi writes India will use the aircraft to replace eight legacy Russian-built Tu-142 maritime aircraft, according to the report.

The company built the P-8I as a derivative of its 737 commercial jet and India’s variation of the military variant contains an aft radar and a magnetic anomaly detector that personnel in-flight use.

India™s defense acquisition council approved the proposal to buy four new P-8I aircraft from Boeing in July 2015.
