AFRL Inks $75M Additive Manufacturing R&D Agreement With America Makes

AdditiveManufacturingThe Air Force Research Laboratory and America Makes: National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Institute have signed a potential five-year, $75 million agreement to develop technology platforms based on three-dimensional printing techniques.

America Makes said June 8 it will design 3D printing-based technologies that have potential sustainment applications for the U.S. Air Force through the cost-share, cooperative deal with AFRL.

Ed Morris, director of America Makes and vice president of the National Center for Defense Manufacturing and Machining, said the agreement aims to recognize America Makes as a public-private partnership and its efforts to advance research and development in the additive manufacturing area.

NCDMM established America Makes in 2012 as a National Network for Manufacturing Innovation pilot institute through a cooperative agreement with AFRL.
