Mark Gerencser, the three-decade Booz Allen Hamilton (NYSE: BAH) veteran and six-term director there, has joined the board of directors at McLean, Virginia-based government and national security engineering services contractor Alion Science & Technology approximately seven months after its acquisition by private equity firm Veritas Capital.
Alion Science said Thursday it appointed Gerencser for his knowledge and experience in the federal technology and government contracting sector as the company embarks on its post-acquisition strategy.
Gerencser retired from McLean-headquartered Booz Allen in mid-2013 as an executive vice president upon his appointment as chairman of Baltimore-based computer services provider Cyberspa, a company he helped to venture fund, and also has helped infrastructure technology company Multi-Flex Pipe Systems and Internet of Things security firm Welbeck Connect.
His Booz Allen career included time as leader of the firm’s 20, 000-employee government business and managing partner of its global commercial business that focused on the healthcare, finance and industrial sectors.
“Mark’s experience and insights are a perfect match for our vision of the company’s future, and we are delighted that he will be contributing to Alion’s business strategy, ” Alion CEO Bahman Atefi said.
Gerencser sits on the boards of directors at technology services providers Sotera Defense Solutions and Orion System Integrators, serves as chairman of the board of visitors for the University of Maryland at University College and is a member of the National Security Agency Advisory Board Emerging Technologies Panel.
He also co-authored the Washington Post best-selling book “Megacommunities†that recommends public, private and civil sector leaders work collaboratively to solve large-scale problems in the world.
