Lockheed will build one Freedom-variant warship (LCS 25) under a $564 million contract modification and Austals U.S. business will construct an Independence-variant combat vessel (LCS 26) for another $564 million, the Defense Department said Thursday.
The service branch awarded the modifications to exercise options in previously awarded contracts, DoD added.
Contract line items for each LCS include seaframe construction, ship systems equipment and systems tests and integration.
Both contractors are scheduled to complete contract work by July 2020, according to DoD.
The Naval Sea Systems Command will obligate the full amount for each contract modification from the military branchs shipbuilding and conversion funds for fiscal 2016.
