 Government services contractors gained a new leading voice and public advocate this week in the form of a nearly 35-year veteran with a diverse background that includes high-profile roles in industry, the public sector and academia.
David Berteau, former assistant defense secretary for logistics and materiel readiness, will join the GovCon trade association Professional Services Council on March 28 and succeed PSC™s former longtime leader Stan Soloway.
Nearly 400 contractors ranging small to large are members of the 44-year-old organization that represents the government services industry in issues related to legislation and other policies.
Berteau oversaw a nearly $170 billion defense logistics budget in his role at the Pentagon and is also a former senior vice president from the think tank CSIS, held an SVP role at SAIC and has taught national security courses at major universities.
Berteau heads to the Arlington, Va.-based PSC nine months after its trade group counterpart Aerospace Industries Association announced former Exelis CEO and another longtime defense veteran David Melcher as chief executive.
AIA has 150 full and 161 associate member companies in the aerospace and defense industry to represent many of the largest platform and product makers in the government contracting sector.
Changing budgets, a renewed emphasis on public-private partnerships all figure to be on the agendas for both organizations this year as GovCon leaders await developments in the political arena.
