The State Department has approved Australia’s foreign military sale request for countermeasures, chaff and impulse cartridges and related equipment valued at an estimated $165 million.
Bolstering Australia’s Aircraft Survivability
The Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Tuesday Australia requested to purchase MJU-61 and MJU-64 decoy flares, MJU-66 and MJU-76 flare countermeasures, RR-198A/L chaff cartridges and CCU-145/A impulse cartridges. The request also covers the procurement of support equipment, particularly the MK-3 pallet, as well as U.S. government and contractor technical assistance and other related logistics and program support elements.
Under the proposed deal, the principal contractors will be Alloy Surface in Aston, Pennsylvania.; Armtec Countermeasures in Coachella, California; CCI Capco in Grand Junction, Colorado; and Kilgore Flares in Toone, Tennessee.
The proposed purchase is intended to boost Australia’s defense capabilities against current and future threats through enhanced aircraft survivability.
Three U.S. government personnel and one contractor representative will have to visit Australia temporarily to provide program and technical reviews and other program technical oversight and support requirements.
DSCA notified Congress of the possible sale Tuesday.
