State Department Clears TECRO Requests for Communication, Artillery Systems

The State Department has approved the two foreign military sale requests of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the United States for military communication systems and naval artillery systems enhancement valued at $265 million and $30 million, respectively.

The Defense Security Cooperation Agency said it notified Congress of both potential deals on Dec. 20.

MIDS JTRS Variant 5 Request

TECRO intends to purchase command, control, communications and computers modernization and related equipment. In particular, the possible deal involves the procurement of 309 Multifunctional Information Distribution System Joint Tactical Radio Systems Variant 5, or  MIDS JTRS V5.

The request also covers non-MDE items such as non-recurring engineering and testing, certification, and other activities for the integration of the MIDS JTRS V5 Block Upgrade Three on the recipientā€™s Patriot, HE-2K, P-3, and F-16 Block 20 platforms. In addition, TECRO will purchase communications equipment and services for Advanced Tactical Datalink System modernization along with logistics and program support elements.

The possible agreement aims to bolster C4 capabilities and accelerate the deployment of an infrastructure that provides a more secure transfer of tactical information.

Under the potential sale, five U.S. government personnel and five contractor representatives will spend up to four weeks at the recipientā€™s location to provide engineering and technical support and conduct program and technical reviews.

MK 75 76 MM Gun Mounts Requirement

TECRO also requested to purchase 16 MK 75 76 mm gun mounts along with non-MDE items including shipping containers, technical assistance for overhauling guns and additional logistics and program support. The gun mounts and other items will be sourced from U.S. stock and refurbished for use by the U.S. Coast Guard.

The FMS request is also intended to strengthen security and defense capabilities against existing and future threats by arming various ships in inventory with surface and air defense capabilities.
