Brett Markham’s NGA Career
Markham previously served as the NGA’s chief of staff. As a member of the executive leadership team and third-ranking officer, he was responsible for the agency’s daily operations. He oversaw the executive support staff, administrative services, logistics, personnel security, human resources, employee training and development, corporate communications and congressional engagement.
The NGA leader also served as the west executive and deputy associate director of operations. In this dual role, Markham represented the director and deputy director at the agency’s St. Louis campuses, where he was instrumental in the integration of all activities. He managed enterprise, cross-cutting activities for all critical components of the agency in the West while ensuring open communication between the leadership team and the workforce.
Furthermore, Markham oversaw the NGA Operations Center, Office of NGA Defense, Office of Expeditionary Operations and NGA leadership at the three NRO Aerospace Data Facilities. Some of his tasks included coordinating operational collections and requirements, planning and worldwide management.
The new NGA deputy director also worked as director of analytic operations at the Analysis Directorate where he spearheaded the integration, execution and transformation of GEOINT operations across the directorate’s offices and NGA support teams. He also served as associate deputy director for operational engagement and deputy director of the NGA Operations Center.
Early in his 28-year naval career, Markham served as the deputy director of Intelligence for North American Aerospace Defense Command and U.S. Northern Command and as director of Intelligence for U.S. Transportation Command.
