Northrop Grumman has received a U.S. Navy contract worth approximately $318.7 million to continue providing technical engineering and integration support services for the Trident II (D-5) submarine-launched ballistic missile and underwater launcher systems of guided missile submarines.
The Department of Defense said Tuesday the sole-source contract has a base value of $42.3 million and includes field services at shipyards and other sites and support for foreign military sales customers.
Work will occur in California, Washington, Georgia, Florida, West Virginia and Maryland through the end of September 2031.
The service branch is obligating $10.2 million in fiscal 2025 operations and maintenance funds and $7.7 million in fiscal 2024 research, development, test and evaluation funds.
A presolicitation notice for the Trident II sustainment support requirement was issued in November 2023.
What is Trident II (D-5) SLBM?
Trident II (D5) is a three-stage, inertially guided missile that is part of the U.S. strategic nuclear deterrent triad. It has a range of about 4,000 nautical miles designed to carry multiple reentry bodies, providing the country with assured second-strike capability.
The Trident II strategic weapon system is deployed aboard Ohio-class nuclear-powered submarines, each capable of transporting 20 D5 missiles.
