ManTech Secures $98M USAF Contract for AEM II Nuclear Particle Analysis Support

ManTech has received a U.S. Air Force contract worth approximately $98 million to provide services for the processing and analysis of a wide range of environmental samples containing nuclear-related materials.

The Department of Defense said Tuesday the firm-fixed-price, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract will support the Air Force Technical Applications Center’s Advanced Environmental Measurements II, or AEM II, program, which will cover nuclear particle analysis data and reports.

The Air Combat Command Acquisition Management and Integration Center at Patrick Space Force Base in Florida will obligate $9.9 million in fiscal 2025 operations and maintenance funds for the sole-source contract.

Work will occur in Sunol, California, through the end of October 2031.

AEM II

In early 2023, the Air Force started conducting market research and issued a draft performance work statement for the AEM II program.

According to the draft PWS, the vendor should maintain a process for isolating and detecting nuclear-related particles from environmental debris samples and adhere to a quality assurance and quality control program to ensure that all measurements contain no laboratory-induced contamination.

Through the AEM II IDIQ contract, the contractor will gather and input analysis results in a database for use in contamination monitoring and for historical purposes as well as provide data interpretation support.

Specific tasks include analysis, quality control, research and development and data reporting.
