Redwire (NYSE: RDW) has agreed to acquire spacecraft developer Hera Systems in an effort to expand the global space infrastructure and innovation company’s national security mission capabilities and offerings.
Hera Systems‘ advanced platform is expected to strengthen the spacecraft portfolio of Redwire, the Jacksonville, Florida-based company said Wednesday.
The platform features cyber-secure communications, resilient power systems, highly accurate pointing, extensive maneuverability and onboard computing power to support mission- and payload-specific machine learning.
“Hera Systems’ platform is highly complementary with Redwire’s suite of national security space solutions,” said Peter Cannito, chairman and CEO of Redwire. “Similar to our focus on [very low Earth orbit] platforms, we see increasing opportunities to unlock and deliver new solutions in [medium Earth orbit], [geostationary orbit] and other domains to support the warfighter and address critical needs in national security space.”
Redwire will finance the acquisition with balance sheet liquidity.
In June, the company secured a contract from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency to serve as the prime mission integrator for the development of an air-breathing satellite meant to demonstrate the use of novel electric propulsion systems in VLEO using its SabreSat VLEO platform.
