OPSWAT has acquired InQuest in line with its efforts to boost its cybersecurity capabilities.
The critical infrastructure cybersecurity company said Wednesday the acquisition, which was announced during the recent Black Hat USA conference, is aimed at enhancing OPSWAT’s ability to defend against network-based threats. The move is also intended to fast-track the company’s strategy of expanding in the federal market.
OPSWAT will combine its own MetaDefender Cloud and FileScan.io with InQuest’s threat intelligence capabilities into a single repository. This will strengthen OPSWAT’s intelligence capabilities while providing InQuest’s clients with access to MetaDefender-enhanced Network Detection and Response.
InQuest brings a track record of protecting critical networks to the table. The company is known for providing Department of Defense customers with high-level cybersecurity protection. It also puts forward its innovations like Deep File Inspection and RetroHunting technologies.
With the merger, some of InQuest’s executives will be appointed to leadership roles at OPSWAT.
Former CEO of InQuest Michael Arcamone has been appointed chief strategy officer and VP of federal sales at OPSWAT while former Chief Technology Officer Pedram Amini will be chief scientist. Amini will oversee the development of threat intelligence, machine learning and email security, as well as integration of Inquest Labs into OPSWAT.
Benny Czarny, founder and CEO of OPSWAT, welcomed the opportunity to work with Arcamone on providing customers with capabilities to defend against threats.
“The combination of InQuest’s technology with OPSWAT’s MetaDefender platform will enhance the efficacy of threat intelligence and prevention, further enabling federal organizations and other critical sectors to operate securely and efficiently,” added Czarny.
Meanwhile, Arcamone commented, “This acquisition allows us to leverage OPSWAT’s extensive resources and expertise to further develop our technologies and provide even greater value to our customers.”
OPSWAT and InQuest have a well-established partnership dating back to 2013 when they worked together for a customer at the Pentagon. In the joint project, the MetaDefender was integrated with InQuest’s NDR.
In 2016, the two companies were tasked by the Defense Information Systems Agency to bolster the security of DOD networks using OPSWAT’s MetaScan multi-scanning tool and InQuest’s network session inspection and analysis technology.
