James Matney Joins Red River as Government Technology Services Unit CTO

Red River has appointed James Matney, a 35-year military and federal government contracting industry executive, as senior vice president of solutions and chief technology officer of its government technology services business unit.

The company said Tuesday Matney will oversee innovation efforts and develop new products to help expand the GTS unit’s portfolio and will bring to the role his expertise in software development, systems engineering, cybersecurity, cloud and network operations, among other areas.

Red River CEO Brian Roach said Matney has extensive government and private sector experience and has deep understanding of the technology needs and mission of Department of Defense and civilian agency customers.

“We will look to James to further strengthen, differentiate, and align solutions development and customer engagement across the markets Red River’s GTS business unit serves,” added Roach.

Matney most recently served as VP of strategy at General Dynamics Information Technology’s defense division.

Prior to GDIT, he held leadership positions at Science Applications International Corp. (Nasdaq: SAIC) and Engility.

The newly appointed CTO spent 25 years in the U.S. Air Force, where he held information technology roles such as telecommunications/computer specialist and communications officer. Following his retirement from active duty, he joined U.S. Pacific Command and led a technical team.

Matney has a doctorate degree in computer science with a focus on cybersecurity and holds Cloud Security Professional, Information Systems Security Professional and Project Management Professional certifications.
