Northrop Grumman (NYSE: NOC) has received a $1.46 billion contract modification from the U.S. Navy for nine E-2D Advanced Hawkeye aircraft and related support.
The Department of Defense said Friday the award covers four aircraft for the Navy and five for Japan, and is expected to wrap up by March 2029.
In March 2023, the State Department cleared Japan’s request to procure the Northrop-built airborne early warning and control aircraft, related equipment and services. The foreign military sale transaction is aimed at improving the Asian country’s homeland defense capability and situational awareness of naval and aerial activity in the Pacific region.
The E-2D Advanced Hawkeye is developed to provide warfighters with expanded battlespace awareness. It delivers battle management, theater air and missile defense, as well as multiple sensor fusion capabilities.
Work under the contract modification will be done in Saint Augustine and Melbourne, Florida, and other locations within the continental U.S.
The Navy will obligate funds from the fiscal year 2023 and 2024 aircraft procurement allocation and FMS customer budget at the time of the award.
Naval Air Systems Command serves as the contracting activity.
