​​Brig. Gen. Jason Bartolomei Takes Command of Air Force Research Laboratory

​​Brig. Gen. Jason Bartolomei has assumed command of the Air Force Research Laboratory, the scientific research and development detachment of the U.S. Air Force Materiel Command at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio.

The Air Force said Friday the new AFRL commander was most recently the program executive officer for weapons and director of the Armament Directorate at the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida.

Bartolomei, the 14th commander of AFRL and the new technology executive officer for the Department of the Air Force, is responsible for leading a science, technology and innovation enterprise that works to accelerate discovery and development in support of the Air Force and Space Force. He is also tasked to spearhead development of a comprehensive technology portfolio to anticipate future requirements of the warfighters.

His career includes time as director of the Sentinel Systems Directorate, assistant secretary of the Air Force (Acquisition) in the Global Reach Programs Directorate and engineer in the F-22 System Program Office. He was commissioned in 1997.

Bartolomei succeeded Maj. Gen. Scott Cain, who will become the commander of the Air Force Test Center at Edwards Air Force Base in California.
