A limited liability company formed by a BWX Technologies (NYSE: BWXT) subsidiary, Fluor (NYSE: FLR), SOC and Texas A&M University System has won a potential 20-year contract from the Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration to manage and operate the Pantex Plant in Amarillo, Texas.
NNSA said Thursday the contract awarded to PanTeXas Deterrence is valued at approximately $1.5 billion annually and has a four-month transition period, five-year base term and three five-year options.
PanTeXas Deterrence will kick off the transition period in mid-July and will be required to offer positions to all existing employees that are needed to complete the contract requirements and serve as the sponsor of the current benefit plans.
NNSA Administrator Jill Hruby said Pantex has served as the country’s primary nuclear weapon assembly and disassembly center for over four decades.
“The selection of PanTeXas Deterrence through full and open competition will help us accelerate weapon delivery and technology insertion, execute our infrastructure modernization, and continuously improve safety and security,” added Hruby.
In July 2023, NNSA issued a solicitation for the Pantex Plant management and operating contract.
