The State Department has approved a potential $950 million foreign military sale of UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters and related components to the Brazilian government.
Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) will serve as the lead contractor on the proposed FMS deal, which includes 12 UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters, associated equipment, logistics and program support, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Friday.
Brazil requested to buy T700-GE-701D engines, EAGLE-M embedded global position systems with inertial navigation and AN/ARC-231A radio systems.
Associated components also include identification friend or foe transponders, single channel ground and airborne radio systems, high-frequency airborne communication systems, advanced digital tactical airborne navigation receiver-transmitters, radar altimeter systems and minigun systems.
DSCA said Brazil will use the military helicopters to transport troops and support border security, humanitarian assistance, medical evacuation, disaster relief and search-and-rescue missions.
Brazil will require the deployment of approximately 15 to 30 government and contractor representatives upon implementation of the deal.
