The Wash100 Award is Executive Mosaic’s annual commendation of the most influential senior executives, military leaders and government officials shaping the government contracting industry. The top 100 winners are carefully selected from thousands of candidates and evaluated based on their innovation, vision and reliability to deliver results in the sector to support the U.S. mission.
“As the nation accelerates rapidly toward dramatically expanded networks and the prodigious 5G expansion, Maggie’s bold leadership and dedication to network innovation is a major asset to Verizon and to our country. Maggie leverages her extensive experience in technology and telecommunications to drive Verizon’s success in national programs across federal, state, and local governments,” said Jim Garrettson, CEO of Executive Mosaic.
“A true trailblazer, she’s at the forefront of advocating and implementing 5G solutions within the public sector, and we’re excited to feature her on our Wash100 list for the second consecutive year,” continued Garrettson, founder of the Wash100 Award.
Hallbach’s 2024 win reflects her enduring commitment to advancing network capabilities of public sector customers, which was also one of the reasons for her selection to receive her first Wash100 Award in 2023.
Under the SVP’s leadership, Verizon Public Sector continues to secure government contract awards that cover the company’s network services.
One such award is a potential nine-year, $448.3 million contract from the Department of Veterans Affairs for mobile devices and wireless network support. It is part of VA’s follow-on Enterprise Mobile Devices and Services program and provides the department with access to the Verizon Frontline public safety communications platform.
Through the expanded partnership, VA aims to adopt mobile edge computing and software-defined wide-area network systems. Hallbach said at that time, “Verizon has a long-standing partnership with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, including connecting the first fully 5G-connected hospital at the VA facility in Palo Alto and the VA Video Connect telehealth service, which provides over 80,000 veterans with free, unlimited access to health care consultations.”
In addition, Verizon Public Sector works with the Veterans Health Administration to boost connectivity for veterans residing in rural and remote locations through 4G and 5G wireless or low Earth orbit satellite networks.
Hallbach said the collaboration’s objective is to assist VA in bridging “the Digital Divide” for veterans. “This important partnership and the improved broadband internet availability it will help provide is aimed at ensuring veterans, regardless of where they live, have access to the widest possible array of health and wellness options,” she further remarked.
Aside from VA, the U.S. Postal Service also tapped Verizon to support its implementation of a cloud technology platform as part of agency infrastructure modernization efforts. Under a 10-year, $145.7 million contract, the company is helping USPS transition to a multichannel telecommunication system designed for agency customer services.
The U.S. Navy is another notable Verizon customer in 2023. It awarded a task order under the Enterprise Infrastructure Solutions contract vehicle to procure voice and data services in support of the Morale, Welfare and Recreation program.
Commenting on the $15 million task order, Hallbach said, “The MWR contract award represents the latest example of Verizon’s dedication to the digital transformation of federal agencies, as well as the broader public sector.”
Also through the EIS contract, Verizon expects to help the Department of Health and Human Services save $700 million by 2032. The company cited HHS officials’ forecast on the financial benefits of the 12-year, $2.5 billion EIS task order for data and voice technology modernization support.
Notably, Verizon Business Network Services was given “exceptional” rating, or the highest possible classification, for its performance across the Washington Interagency Telecommunications System 3. The accolade announced in November marks the tenth consecutive year Verizon has received the highest rating, which was determined by federal agencies using the Contractor Performance Assessment Reporting System.
Hallbach considers the rating as proof of the federal government’s trust in Verizon and as demonstration of the company’s commitment to preserving compliance, delivering the highest-quality work and fostering long-term partnerships.
In September, Hallbach was named chair of Executive Mosaic’s 4×24 5G Group, which is a cohort of 5G professionals committed to leveraging 5G to support the public sector.
“I am confident that the entire Verizon Public Sector team, and the distinguished members of this group, are committed to ensuring all federal, state and local agencies have the capabilities they need to achieve their missions both now and in the future — a future that will be shaped, in large part, by the power of 5G,” Hallbach said at the time of her appointment.
