Wash100 annually recognizes the most influential executives in the GovCon space. Winners of the coveted award represent the highest tier of leadership in the field and are selected for both their past success and potential to shape the future of the ever-evolving industry.
“I am honored to be recognized as a Wash100 along with so many inspiring colleagues, customers and partners. In the few months since being named to lead SAIC, I have focused our team on four strategic pivots and an expanded enterprise operating model to ignite our growth and market leadership,” Townes-Whitley said.
She continued, “I have been impressed with our team’s agility and problem-solving capabilities to partner with our customers and deliver solutions that address our nation’s most pressing imperatives. SAIC is a national asset, and we will proudly continue to contribute innovative, integrated technology and talent to U.S. mission critical operations.”
A 35-year technology industry veteran, Townes-Whitley previously held executive positions at major companies such as Microsoft and CGI. Her accomplished leadership led her to SAIC in October, when she took charge of the large contractor.
“In just six months as the head of SAIC — a $7 billion enterprise providing engineering, digital, AI and mission support solutions to government customers — Toni has established herself as a strategic, influential and deeply knowledgeable leader who is well-equipped to take the reins of the enterprise and guide SAIC through its next phase of growth. Toni was an obvious choice for the Wash100 Award this year, and we look forward to seeing the continued impacts of her leadership rippling through SAIC and the broader GovCon marketplace in the coming year and beyond,” said Jim Garrettson, CEO of Executive Mosaic and founder of the Wash100 Award.
Townes-Whitley has already solidified her place as an SAIC leader. In the third quarter of fiscal year 2024, SAIC demonstrated strong earnings growth, with net income increasing by 16 percent from Q3 fiscal 2023.
“To ensure our leadership in the market, SAIC is focused on strategic pivots across four key dimensions of the business: innovation & solutions, go-to-market, culture, and brand,” Townes-Whitley said.
With these “early signs of success,” she anticipates further progress toward upcoming milestones.
“We believe our financial results in the third quarter demonstrate that we are entering the next phase of our strategy from a position of strength,” Townes-Whitley said.
In December, she launched sweeping changes to the company’s structure, which divided the organization’s operations into five business groups – Army, Navy, Air Force and combatant commands, space and intelligence and civilian. In support of this effort, SAIC appointed four new executive vice presidents to lead these units.
“This builds upon our recent decision to centralize our business development function to prioritize the quality and pace at which we execute our market opportunities,” Townes-Whitley said of the move.
While Wash100 honors the past accomplishments of its winners, it also looks toward the future. Since Townes-Whitley was selected to join 2024 Wash100 class, SAIC has won multiple major contracts, including a $444 million award issued earlier this month to support the Space Systems Command’s space launch instrumentation modernization efforts. The company also secured a spot on a $60.7 billion Department of Veterans Affairs contract for information technology services in January.
Executive Mosaic congratulates Townes-Whitley on her first Wash100 Award win and is excited to see her continue to transform SAIC.
