“I am deeply honored to be included in this year’s Wash100 community, among so many talented leaders. This recognition underscores the collective efforts of our team at Hitachi Vantara Federal and the impactful strides we’ve taken to deliver mission-centric data solutions for the federal government,” said Serway. “This year, we aim to further amplify our contributions, driving positive change and pioneering innovative solutions that address the evolving needs of our government partners. I am excited about the opportunities ahead and grateful for the acknowledgment of our ongoing dedication to excellence.”
This is the first time that Serway was named among Executive Mosaic’s annual list of 100 elite leaders in the government and government contracting space.
“With over 25 years of industry experience, predominantly in finance roles, Mark has made the ultimate jump from CFO to CEO and President of Hitachi Vantara Federal. Through a combination of strategic personnel changes, additions and brand enhancement, he has demonstrated GovCon leadership for one of the most recognizable FOCI companies,” remarked Jim Garrettson, CEO of Executive Mosaic and creator of the Wash100 Award.
Serway assumed the dual role of president and CEO at Hitachi Vantara’s FOCI-mitigated subsidiary in September 2022 after serving on an interim basis for six months. He is responsible for the execution of Hitachi Vantara Federal’s organizational vision and strategy and has oversight of the overall financial and operational functions in his capacity.
The chief executive leads Hitachi Vantara Federal as it continues to develop, deliver and support trusted data products and services for accelerating innovation in the federal government and strengthening the defense and security of the nation.
He joined Hitachi Vantara Federal in September 2017 as chief financial officer, responsible for driving operational and profit improvements, spearheading business transformation initiatives and leading a team that oversees customer support, business operations, financial planning and analysis, accounting, treasury, information technology, facilities, purchasing and pricing.
Serway has three decades of industry experience, having held positions of consequence at Akima, Govplace, Lockheed Martin and Paradigm Solutions, among others.
Under his leadership, Hitachi Vantara Federal made several executive hires in the previous years, including Phil Fuster, chief revenue officer; Joe Corcoran, senior director of professional services and delivery; and Ryan Hinkle, director of federal sales.
The company also named Chris Garner, Melissa Hardt and Wendy Noker as director of federal integrator sales, director of marketing and director of channel and alliances, respectively, to support company expansion within the public sector market.
Commenting on the appointment, Serway said, “As we continue to embody excellence in comprehensive data management solutions for federal agencies, these three executives will help us drive revenue growth, strengthen partner relationships, and elevate our market presence. We look forward to seeing the impact they will make as we move forward in our mission to support the Federal government’s data management needs.”
Aside from growing its workforce, Hitachi Vantara Federal also places emphasis on emerging technologies that support agencies. Several company executives spoke about digital transformation and data management, hybrid cloud strategies, 5G, artificial intelligence tools and applications, IT modernization and data-centric security approach to mention a few.
Just this February, Hitachi Vantara Federal joined the U.S. Artificial Intelligence Safety Institute Consortium of the National Institute of Standards and Technology. As an AISIC member, the company will help create standards for the development and use of trustworthy AI technologies. It seeks to prepare the U.S. in addressing the capabilities of the next generation of AI models or systems.
As the year progresses, Executive Mosaic looks forward to Serway’s continued impact on the government contracting industry, his leadership and where he will take Hitachi Vantara Federal next.
GovCon’s preeminent media, events and membership organization congratulates Serway and the Hitachi Vantara Federal team on their selection to receive the 2024 Wash100 Award.
