As 5G communications technology advances, it’s opening up a new world of capabilities for missions across the defense landscape and within the public sector. In a new exclusive video interview, JMA Wireless’ Rishi Bhaskar sat down with Executive Mosaic to talk about what’s on the horizon for 5G innovation and why it’s so important at this moment.
“5G is really a technology that’s expected to revolutionize the way we communicate, both in our commercial and personal lives, but maybe more so importantly in our industrial and business world as well. We expect 5G to become the platform of communication of the future for DOD,” said Bhaskar, a senior vice president and general manager at JMA Wireless, in conversation with Executive Mosaic’s Summer Myatt.
In recent years, the Department of Defense has placed heavy emphasis on modernization, and it is currently undertaking a wide range of modernization efforts to support its most critical missions. Bhaskar cited documents like the Navy’s Force Design 2030 as clear indications of the DOD’s commitment to enterprise-wide modernization.
“We believe 5G as a platform of communication actually enables that modernization at scale. And the nice thing about being able to leverage a technology like 5G to be that communication platform is we are now finally enabling the department to take advantage of global economies of scale,” he explained.
According to Bhaskar, 5G is allowing JMA to harness the past few decades of research and development to build platform solutions for the Pentagon. In addition to benefits like increased reliability and security, 5G also allows these platforms to consolidate siloed networks into a single environment.

“The long-term total cost of ownership will drop significantly as we build 5G platform solutions for modernization of use cases for the department,” said Bhaskar, and some of these use cases include enhanced command and control as well as operations and tactical planning.
