There is an undeniable stigma associated with government healthcare delivery that conjures images of long lines, lackluster treatment and protracted wait periods. However, Executive Director of the Digital Service at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Andrea Fletcher wants to set the record straight. She believes the U.S. government’s systems for arranging and providing health services are under-appreciated and misunderstood.
“The government is incredibly efficient at delivering healthcare. We’re really good at doing the work, and not so great at talking about how good we are at it,” Fletcher told GovCon Wire in an exclusive statement.
If you want to know more, clear your calendar on December 6. Fletcher will be delivering a keynote address at the 2023 Healthcare Summit, hosted by Potomac Officers Club, where she’ll be joined by an impressive slate of public and private sector healthcare experts to catch the audience up to speed on the latest in government contracting healthcare projects and partnerships. Topics explored will include maintaining patient privacy, prioritizing human-centered design in applications and more. Register here!
Furthermore, Fletcher told us she doesn’t think the American public is properly informed about the extensiveness and effectiveness of the government’s offerings.
“I don’t think the vast majority of Americans truly understand how successful programs like Medicare, Medicaid, and Healthcare.gov are at getting people healthcare in America,” she said.
The Digital Service executive director, who also serves as chief digital strategy officer for CMS, urges citizens to recognize and pay tribute to the immense benefits she feels they gain from the current healthcare system.
“These are cornerstones of our nation’s healthcare system and something we should celebrate more as successes in supporting our citizens to improve their health,” Fletcher stated.
During her keynote address at the 2023 Healthcare Summit, Fletcher plans to use her work in the digital aspects of healthcare delivery as a springboard to discuss the technologies CMS needs from the GovCon-predominant audience.
