Amazon Exec Dave Limp Appointed Blue Origin CEO

Dave Limp, a nearly 14-year Amazon (Nasdaq: AMZN) executive, will officially join Kent, Washington-based space company Blue Origin as CEO on Dec. 4, CNBC reported Monday.

He will succeed the retiring Bob Smith, who will stay with Blue Origin through Jan. 2 to facilitate the leadership transition.

Limp has been serving as senior vice president of devices and services at Amazon since 2010. In this capacity, he led the company’s Alexa, Ring and Echo businesses and technology initiatives such as the Project Kuiper satellite internet constellation and Zoox autonomous vehicles.

Prior to Amazon, Limp served for four years as venture partner at Azure Capital Partners.

His industry career included time holding senior leadership positions at Palm, Liberate Technologies and Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL).

In a message to employees, Blue Origin Founder Jeff Bezos praised and thanked Smith for his accomplishments during his tenure as chief executive and welcomed Limp to the role at the launch services provider.

“Dave is a proven innovator with a customer-first mindset and extensive experience leading and scaling large, complex organizations,” Bezos, also founder of Amazon, wrote in the note to Blue Origin staff.
