HII’s (NYSE: HII) Ingalls Shipbuilding division has secured a $154.8 million contract modification from the U.S. Navy to modernize the USS Zumwalt (DDG 1000) guided-missile destroyer.
USS Zumwalt will integrate the Conventional Prompt Strike weapon system and undergo other technology upgrades under the contract modification, HII said Tuesday.
The ship left San Diego in early August and arrived in Pascagoula, Mississippi, on Aug. 19.
In January, Ingalls Shipbuilding received a $10.5 million contract to support modernization period planning work on USS Zumwalt (DDG 1000) and Michael Monsoor (DDG 1001) destroyers.
Zumwalt-class destroyers are multimission vessels designed to enable the Navy to project power and perform deterrence, sea control and command-and-control operations. The ships come with an electric propulsion system, a stealth design, tumblehome hull, warfighting technologies and other weaponry.
