Sarcos Technology and Robotics (Nasdaq: STRC and STRCW) has established an artificial intelligence-focused business segment to cater to the demands of the defense market, and selected Denis Garagic, the company’s chief technology officer, to lead the new unit.
The Advanced Technologies division will market Sarcos’ AI and machine learning software platform to support a broad range of autonomous systems, including industrial robots and unmanned aerial vehicles, operating in complex environments, the Salt Lake City, Utah-headquartered company said Wednesday.
Garagic has more than two decades of experience in advancing the adoption of AI and ML technologies across the defense and intelligence community.
He previously served as chief scientist at BAE Systems‘ FAST Labs research and development unit and led the development of cognitive computing capabilities for military customers.
“With Dr. Garagic’s expertise and leadership, our Advanced Technology division is well positioned to develop cutting-edge AI solutions that can excel in unstructured environments, enabling industries to achieve unprecedented efficiency and effectiveness,” said Laura Peterson, interim president and CEO of Sarcos.
The formation of the new division builds on Sarcos’ work on multi-year AI-focused contracts with the Department of Defense, including a recent contract modification from the Air Force Research Laboratory to build a sensing platform to detect, track and classify adversarial threats.
