The Department of Energy plans to extend its existing contract with Washington River Protection Solutions for another two years to manage tank waste at DOE’s Hanford Site in Washington state.
The planned contract extension will kick off on Oct. 1, 2023, and run through the end of September 2025, and covers base operations, tank retrieval and closure and waste treatment and immobilization plant support, according to a justification notice published Wednesday.
WRPS is owned by Amentum and Atkins with Orano serving as its integrated subcontractor. The company’s current tank operations contract with DOE was set to expire by Sept. 30.
Tri-City Herald reported DOE’s move comes after a bidder, Hanford Tank Disposition Alliance, challenged a contract awarded in April by filing a lawsuit in the U.S. Court of Federal Claims.
In April, DOE awarded the 10-year, $45 billion Hanford Integrated Tank Disposition contract to Hanford Tank Waste Operations & Closure. H2C is a limited liability company formed by BWX Technologies (NYSE: BWXT), Amentum and Fluor (NYSE: FLR).
A federal judge ordered DOD to reevaluate offers from H2C and HTDA, which is owned by Atkins Nuclear Secured, Jacobs Technology and Westinghouse Government Services, according to the Tri-City Herald report.
