Construction Company Granite Secures $173M Army Contract for Sacramento River Infrastructure Project

Granite (NYSE: GVA), a Watsonville, California-based construction and construction materials company, will work on a potential $173 million critical infrastructure project along the state’s Sacramento River.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers tapped Granite to expand the small barrier built across the river and add new fish passage structure and levee embankments near the river to lessen regional flood risk, the company said Wednesday.

The Weir Widening Project is expected to run from July 2023 through December 2026. It is planned to lower water surface elevation through extensive excavation in addition to the said efforts. A 25-span vehicular bridge will also be built to connect Old River Road to communities north of the project.

USACE Sacramento District will fund the construction using the Emergency Supplemental Appropriations in the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2018.
