The U.S. Army has awarded a potential $402 million contract to TRX Systems to produce second-generation devices that work to deliver assured positioning, navigation and timing capabilities to dismounted users.
The indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract awarded under the third phase of the Small Business Innovation Research program includes a $14.6 million delivery order for more than 700 Dismounted Assured PNT Systems Generation II units and related services, the Army’s program executive office for intelligence, electronic warfare and sensors said Tuesday.
The DAPS Gen II program also achieved Milestone C approval from the service branch.
DAPS Gen II is a standalone device that comes with anti-spoofing and anti-jamming capabilities, can integrate with the Small Tactical Universal Battery and Nett Warrior System and meets the National Defense Authorization Act Military Code requirements.
The service integrated lessons learned from soldier touchpoints to further improve the usability and performance of the platform.
“DAPS ensures access to modernized military GPS and fuses additional sources of PNT to include timing and alternate navigation technologies,” said Mike Trzeciak, project manager for PNT at the Army.
Trzeciak added that assured PNT is a key capability in multidomain operations and could support the brigade combat team and its direct support units.
