In December, four major cloud service providers landed a spot on the Department of Defense’s $9 billion Joint Warfighter Cloud Capability contract, the Pentagon’s enterprise-wide cloud adoption effort.
To take a deeper look at what each vendor brings to the contract, Executive Mosaic sat down with leaders from the four awardee companies: Amazon Web Services, Google, Microsoft and Oracle.
In Executive Mosaic’s latest video interview, Oracle Senior Vice President Glen Dodson shared insights into how the company is approaching the contract, what JWCC means for the future of the department and how the cloud effort is influencing the broader government contracting ecosystem.

“JWCC is one of the largest information technology contracts that the Department of Defense has led,” Dodson told Executive Mosaic’s Summer Myatt. “It’s going to be game changing. Through JWCC, they’re also engaging four of the largest hyperscale cloud providers on the planet, and that in itself will be transformational for the department and for the warfighter,” he added.
Dodson explained that cloud is “foundational” to the DOD’s new digital modernization strategy, and it will also set the “tone, agenda and pace for how technology is deployed and also innovated within the department and through the defense industrial base.”
To the JWCC contract, Oracle will bring its Generation 2 Cloud, which Dodson said has seen much success in the private sector. The company’s second generation cloud has been “enabling some of the most demanding workloads on the planet,” Dodson shared.
Ultimately, Dodson said, “Being an awardee on JWCC is not about being relevant to the department and the mission and their future — it’s about being critical to their mission.”
