As cloud technology matures and continues to take over the federal landscape, leaders across the government contracting ecosystem are learning key lessons that are helping shape the path forward. Chief among those lessons is that a multi-cloud approach works best, which is why the Department of Defense awarded its massive enterprise-wide cloud contract to four commercial vendors instead of just one.
Google — along with Amazon Web Services, Microsoft and Oracle — won a spot on the DOD’s $9 billion Joint Warfighting Cloud Capability contract, and Executive Mosaic spoke with Leigh Palmer, vice president of Google Public Sector, to find out what that contract means for Google and for the Pentagon.
“The Department deserves the very best technology that American innovation has to offer, and the JWCC contract is exactly that contract for cloud,” Palmer said in an exclusive video interview with Executive Mosaic. “It’s to drive cloud innovation all the way from the enterprise to the tactical edge.”
This video is part of Executive Mosaic’s series on all four JWCC winners. Check out Microsoft’s contribution to the conversation here, and stay tuned for insights from AWS and Oracle.
JWCC is one of the first truly multi-cloud contracts, and it reflects the DOD’s desire for more vendor diversity, Palmer explained.
Part of what Google brings to the contract is “deep commitment to work with the public sector and the Department of Defense customers,” said Palmer. Google established its public sector entity in the summer of 2022, reflecting the company’s dedication to government missions, and the JWCC award announcement came just six months later.
Palmer said Google is also bringing its technology — data analytics, artificial intelligence and networks, among others — and zero trust security to the table on JWCC.
